CHINA’S ‘EAST’ SETS NEW RECORD AFTER IT ACHIEVED PLASMA TEMPERATURE OF 120 MN ℃ FOR 101 SECONDS

According to state media reports, China’s Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) was successful in setting a new record courtesy of its latest experiment, where it achieved a plasma temperature of 216 million Fahrenheit (120 million C) for just 101 seconds. The report also said that the Chinese scientists, who are working on the “artificial sun”, were also successful in achieving 288 million Fahrenheit (160 million C) temperature for 20 seconds.
The scientists at the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (ASIPP) in Hefei, had developed a Tokamak device in order to reproduce the nuclear fusion process, which is natural to the Sun and stars. This experiment is being carried out to provide infinite clean energy with the help of controlled nuclear fusion.
Talking about the success to the Global Times, Li Miao, director of the physics department of the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, said this latest experiment by Chinese scientists is a key milestone towards the goal of maintaining the temperature at a stable level for a prolonged period. He further said that “The breakthrough is significant progress, and the ultimate goal should be keeping the temperature at a stable level for a long time.”
