Tech giant Microsoft has decided to retire its longstanding browser, Internet Explorer in the year 2022. Next year the browser will officially complete 25 years of service, but with the arrival of several other browsers like Google’s Chrome, the original browser is not been used much by consumers over the years. The Internet Explorer will be retired on June 15, 2022. Talking about the decision, Sean Lyndersay, a Microsoft Edge program manager said “The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.”
Internet Explorer was first launched in the year 1995. Despite being the oldest browser, IE has been considered to be irrelevant in today’s consumer market with the browser holding just a 3.8% share of the desktop browser space. On the other hand, Google’s Chrome has browser holding of nearly 70%.
